Koh Samui Travel and Destination Guide

Samui's Nightlife

At the end of a long day in the sun, sightseeing, shopping and dining, many people just like to flop into bed with a good book. However, for the night-owls among you, Koh Samui is justifiably famed for its nightlife. Particularly in the busier resorts there are lots of bars, clubs and Thai dance and cabaret shows.

Chaweng Beach

Chaweng has a well deserved reputation as Samui’s nightlife capital, and there are plenty of choices of places to hang out when the sun goes down. Whether you want to let your hair down and shake your stuff, or just relax with a cold beer.  Tropical Murphy’s Irish pub is something of an institution, with 11 draught beers on tap, pub grub and live music most nights from 10pm. Bar Solo has a cool interior and great music. It is a good option for early on, when you can sit and watch the characters of Chaweng trundle by. Soi Green Mango is the main area for party action. There is a U-shaped strip with lots of  clubs,Go-Go bars (think dancing on the street with a bucket-fuelled crowd of cuties to mainstream club classics). Christie's is the most famous Lady-Boy Cabaret on Samui. The ‘girls’ are stunning, the costumes fabulous, tunes pure gold and the lip-syncing comical - not to be missed. Dust Bar, on the lake road this cool little music venue has sporadic opening times but quality DJs, definitely worth checking out. Then there's the stylish Q Bar with a downstairs club which generally plays House, while the stunning open air terrace, with its panoramic views over the lake, is more chill out. Finally, the Ark Bar has weekly Wednesday night beach parties, popular with the backpacker crew.

Bophut Fisherman's Village

In the sea-side village of Bophut, the vibe is very laid back. There are a few chill-out bars in the village, perfect for couples having an after dinner drink. The surroundings are great to grab a cocktail on the beach or relax in one of the bohemian bars that line the street. Flair is a nice open-air bar with super cocktails, Frog and Gecko is a very English institution, Starfish and Coffee has lovely arched windows overlooking the ocean.

Lamai Beach

At the southern beach of Lamai, the entertainment caters more for single guys, although two or three clubs offer late night dance options for party seekers. There are plenty of hostess and open-air beer bars spread out along the entire beach road strip, as well as a good selection British-style pubs with live sports and imported draught beers.
