Baan Hin

... in Choengmon, Koh Samui ...

Map of the location for Baan Hin in Choengmon, Koh Samui

A truly modern and luxurious home nestled into the hills of Choeng Mon, with every room opening to its own sun terrace and unique view.

Nestled into the hills of Choeng Mon, Baan Hin which roughly translates to ‘Rock House’, boasts stunning views across the northern jungles of Koh Samui, to the island of Koh Matlang and out beyond to the Gulf of Thailand. This is a truly modern home, merging contemporary design and natural elements with Mother Nature herself. It beautifully defines and maximises the term ‘outside-living’, with every room opening onto its own sun terrace and unique view.

On your arrival, large traditional Thai wooden doors swing open onto a cool, shaded entrance hall with vibrant water garden, skylight with roof terrace above, and just a hint of the view beyond. A bubbling urn serves as a water feature, filling the air with the peaceful sounds of cascading water, while sandstone steps and wooden decks lead off to the two pavilions and various levels that make up this home.

To the right of the entrance hall is the master bedroom suite, set in its own pavilion, with a spectacular tree-top view across the lush jungle canopy. Inside, a sparkling embossed wood etching fills the main wall, as do similar fascinating pieces throughout the property. A large king sized bed, plenty of space and large dark wooden closets are features of all the bedrooms, while en-suites come with stand-alone tubs with views, grey slate wash basins, and private frosted-glass shower rooms and toilets.

To the left of the entrance hall, steps lead down to a smart, elegant, stone-floored kitchen with black granite counters, huge dark wooden cabinets and breakfast bar. Through one cabinet door is a second kitchen with living quarters for staff, on hand for whatever you may need, including a chef to help bring the true tastes of Thailand to your table.

Beyond the kitchen is the second bedroom suite complete with full en-suite featuring indoor-outdoor shower, a private sun terrace and tropical garden. Black marbled tiles again contrast the white sandstone floors, while rustic olive greens bring a natural and neutral touch to all the bedrooms. Mini entertainment centres, fans and air conditioning give you some cool indoor options should you need a break from the sunny paradise outside.

A fresh mountain breeze will hit you as you step out into the centre of this home. And, as the name suggests, a huge old magnificent rock is at the heart of things. Offering protection, shade and privacy, this gigantic rock towers above everything and seems almost alive, with twisted branches and tree limbs tangled into and through every inch of it, creating a small wonder of nature. A wooden deck wraps around the rock and disappears out of sight to a completely secluded and cosy Jacuzzi tub. Here by the warmth of the tree clad rock you can fully relax and take in this perfect oasis.

In the shadow of the rock is a midnight-blue infinity pool, with a rippling view of the sandy shores of Choeng Mon in the distance. Framed by the wooden deck and anchored onto the slopes of the rock itself, this pool is unique and large enough for a morning swim, yet cosy enough to be connected to every room and area of the house. A bar-b-q sits by the rock while black sun loungers await you.

Across the pool is the lounge, wonderfully outside, yet with a roof above your head. Large green and brown sofas fill this area inviting you to relax and watch the sun go down. At the back of the lounge is a guest bathroom and changing area for the pool. To the right, a room dedicated to making the most of your home movie experience - a surround sound home cinema, with black sofas and sound proofed walls, and a 60” screen to help bring any movie to life. A perfect place to end the day or hideaway from the midday sun.

Discreet steps lead you down through a huge wooden door to a third bedroom suite with private sun terrace along its length and full en-suite. With a similar neutral palette and styling to the other bedrooms, this room also opens onto its own view of the bay and feels a world away from the lounge upstairs.

Some more stairs lead up from the lounge to a roof terrace with a difference. For your relaxation, a wooden moon deck, with cushioned wicker sofas and small rock pool to paddle your feet in. And for fun - a pool table awaits you under the stars.

Just 10 minutes from the charming Koh Samui airport, and minutes away from quiet beaches, lively shopping areas and night spots, Baan Hin is everything you need for a perfect tropical break.
